Ashin Issariya holds Dhamma talks in Mae Sot prison, Thailand
All of the prisoners on these photographs are Burmese. Most of them are illegal (workers) in Mae Sot. Ashin Issariya visits them in prison and speaks about how they can bring peace to their lives and be good persons. He teaches them about metta – loving kindness: if you are at peace with yourself, you can radiate this and be peaceful upon others. He also teaches the prisoners how to meditate, so they can practise this and incorporate it into their lives.
As Ashin Issariya is no legal refugee in Thailand – like most of the hundreds of thousands of Burmese refugees there – a Thai citizen arranged for him to give these Dhamma talks in prison. Because he does not speak the Thai language, he can only speak to the Burmese prisoners.
