How YOU can help!

A guide to personal involvement in current Burma campaigns.

Despite the expectations of the international community, there has been very little genuine progress towards democracy or peace since the 2010 elections. In fact, in many areas, the situation in the country has worsened.

While the military regime continues its manipulative program of window dressing, it continues to refuse to take concrete steps towards meaningful democratic reforms.

Militarization, armed conflict, and displacement have increased in ethnic areas after the breakdown of ceasefire agreements between the Burma Army and a number of ethnic armed groups. The Burma Army continues to commit crimes against humanity and war crimes with impunity, including rape, murder, and forced labour.

The people of the world can no longer afford to “wait and see.” It is clear that not only has the human rights situation in Burma deteriorated, but the military junta has shown no willingness to transform Burma into a truly democratic country.

Please join us in working towards real change in Burma by getting involved in the campaigns detailed below. Thank you!

Campaign for a Commission of Inquiry
The people of Burma — particularly those in ethnic areas — have faced widespread and systematic violations of their rights for too long. Burma’s military-led government lacks the willingness and ability to investigate these crimes, and moreover, is the leading perpetrator of widespread and systematic human rights violations. Support Burma Organizations in Thailand
Media, political, activist, education, and social welfare organizations have been able to perform essential duties for the people of Burma from their bases in Thailand. We appreciate the vital support of successive Thai governments, but now need to work on ensuring that it will continue into the near future as Thailand’s newly-elected government takes office.
